India hosted 2018 World Environment Day

Every year on 5th of June, World Environment Day (#WED) is celebrated around the world. Do you know, it was in 1974 UN General Assembly established WED for raising awareness on emerging several environmental issues. In 1974 the first WED was held with the theme "Only One Earth". Every year UN introduces new themes and initiatives for the WED program. UN observes this as one among the most important day for encouraging the awareness worldwide.

This year, 2018 the theme of WED is "Beat Plastic Pollution". And India hosted this year, by pledging to eliminate all single use of plastic in India by 2022.

If you can't reuse it, refuse it

Plastic has become an important factor in last many years in our day to day life. Plastic has many valuable uses, but we have become over-reliant on single-use and causes severe environmental consequences. According to UN, around the world, over 1 million plastic drinking bottles are purchased every minute and 5 trillion disposable plastic bags every year. Thus a total, 50 percent of the plastic are of single use. Why plastic as widely become more popular? Cost, Weight or availability. Whatever may be the reason its true, it causes environmental pollution what we can see now. What we can do now?

There are so many simple things that we can do. Like carrying own water bottles, own shopping bags to the supermarkets. Recently IRCTC has installed many water vending machines in several railway stations all over India by providing 1 litre drinking water cost 5₹.

Share your ideas. Lets pledge for #BeatPlasticPollution
